It is built on the principle of combining the best aspects of corporate discipline and efficiency with community focussed outcomes to deliver a project that breaks the mould of the energy industry and creates benefits for investors, customers and stakeholders, the community and the environment.

The company works in a way that creates collaborative partnerships and looks to find the most efficient way of building supply chains to deliver value. It recognises that different parties have different needs – and even different measures of ‘value’ – and uses these differences as a way to build strength and resilience into its business.

The founders of GPAus Windpower have many years of experience in the Australian energy industry, project development, collaborative relationship development and service delivery.

'Powering the Community©' Project Profile

In South Australia, the ‘Powering the Community©’ project will consist of the following elements:

• Gas-fired Generation facilities to be constructed in Adelaide.
• Wind Farms to be built within South Australia.
• Balanced Generation Mix – by combining gas and wind, the project can deliver reliable power to its customers, be operational quickly and assist all of its customers to transition to 100% GreenPower over time.
• Long Term Supply Agreements – by building a vertically integrated power generation and supply business, the input costs are largely known, so GPAus Windpower will be able to commit to long term supply pricing – something generally unavailable in the current market. This provides customers with long term certainty on their energy costs in a volatile market where prices continue to rise rapidly.
• Stakeholder Benefit Mechanisms – by committing to a long term relationship as part of the ‘Powering the Community©’ project, partners will be able to select the Stakeholder Benefit Mechanism that best fits their organisation. Examples include:
  • Donation – for every household customer that signs up to the GoingGreen program with GPAus Windpower, a donation will be made to the non-profit organisation of your choice each year the customer stays with the project. This might be an ideal fund raising initiative for Schools and Sporting Clubs.
  • Discount – a power discount can be provided to the bill of every nominated stakeholder. This might be an ideal choice for Companies wanting to give additional staff benefits or Retail Groups such as Supermarkets or Service Stations wanting to reward their customers.

How it Works

1. Your organisation submits an Expression of Interest in joining the ‘Powering the Community©’ project.
2. We meet with you to discuss your organisation’s needs in terms of employees, stakeholders and the community.
3. We agree with you a mechanism that will best meet these needs.
4. Your organisation signs an agreement that includes the following:

• Power Purchase - Purchase power from GPAus Windpower for an agreed period at a cost of no more than you would otherwise have paid.
• GoingGreen© - Commit to the GoingGreen© program that will transition your organisation to 100% GreenPower over, say, 5 years.
• Stakeholder Benefits - Select your Stakeholder Benefit Mechanism from staff discounts, fund raising or community/charity donations.
• Deliver Success - Work with GPAus Windpower to publicise the product within your stakeholder groups.

5. We jointly roll out the ‘Powering the Community©’ project to your organisation and your stakeholders

4. Meet with us to discuss the most appropriate Stakeholder Benefit Mechanism for you and the timeline for commitments.

Dr Sam Wells BA, D Phil (Oxon)

Sam Wells is a Rhodes Scholar, with a Doctorate from Oxford University and over 20 years’ corporate experience in human resource management and organisational development, working as a senior executive in a wide range of industries, from brewing to banking, plastics to agribusiness. He runs his own business, consulting to CEOs and executive teams, and is a senior lecturer at the University of Adelaide Business School, where he has a special responsibility for Organisational Sustainability. Dr Wells works with some of Australia’s most accomplished researchers in the field of climate change and community sustainability.


Steve Thomas
Non-Executive Director

Steve Thomas is the conceiver and principal architect of GPAus. As a life-long builder-developer, his entrepreneurial capability has been focused largely in the construction field, although he has explored and had exposure to a wide range of industries, from aquaculture to aged care, wine to real estate.
His skills and experience extend to start-ups, franchising, sales, business planning and stakeholder management. He provides the team with vision and conceptual strength.
